 Alumni Event of the Alfa Fellowship Programme
More than fifty Alfa Fellowship programme Fellows, alumni, and friends gathered on the evening of May 7 to celebrate the second annual Alfa Fellowship Alumni Event. Distinguished guests and speakers included Yuri Ushakov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States; Anders Aslund, Senior Fellow of the Peterson Institute for International Economics; Mikhail Fridman, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Alfa Group Consortium and Peter Aven, President of Alfa-Bank. Yuri Ushakov delivered the keynote address on behalf of Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. In his address Mr Lavrov gave the programme an exceptionally high assessment and acknowledged the contribution of the programme’s participants to maintaining a constructive and positive bilateral dialogue between Russia and the USA. He further commented on the necessity to continue development of the programme in future. The Minister emphasised his belief that the Alfa fellows will continue to strengthen the Russian-American partnership throughout their careers. The Alfa Fellowship Programme is a unique initiative of Alfa-Bank designed to provide high-level work experience at leading Russian organisations to young US professionals in the fields of business, economics, journalism, law, public policy and government. The fellowship programme, established in 2004, provides language training, seminar programmes and extended professional assignments. The key goals of the initiative are to expand networks between US and Russian professionals, develop greater intercultural understanding and improve US-Russian relations. By sponsoring the Alfa Fellowship Programme, Alfa-Bank demonstrates its commitment to fostering a new generation of American and Russian leaders who have the expertise required to sustain and improve ties between the US and Russia.
